Becoming a parent is life changing for everyone. Becoming an adoptive parent brings its own unique rewards, issues and challenges.

Jennifer Bruce an adoptive parent, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist and life coach founded Adoptive Parent Support in 2014 to help support adopters at all stages of their adoption journey.

“Our children usually arrive with difficult histories; our role is to nurture them while keeping ourselves in the best possible condition to be able to cope with their needs, which can sometimes be excessive. Adoptive Parent Support works with parents to help families thrive”.

Scottish Adoption has collaborated with Adoptive Parent Support to offer families support during their first 90 days of placement (or sooner if required) and will be in the form of:

6 x 60 minute 1:2:1 coaching/mentoring sessions fortnightly during the first 3 months of placement for the main carer.

These sessions provide a safe and confidential space to discuss thoughts, feelings and emotions around your placement as well as practical hints and tips with a therapist who is also an adoptive parent and understands the major impact of bringing your new child or children home.

The sessions can take place face to face, over Skype, by telephone or as a combination of these.

If you are simply exhausted, feel free to book in for some relaxing hypnosis where 45 minutes can recharge your batteries in the same way that 4 hours of sleep can.

If you would like to find out more, please check out adoptiveparentsupport.co.uk. If you would like to take up this service, just let your worker at Scottish Adoption know you are interested in receiving contact. Please note this is in addition to the regular support that your worker will provide post placement.
